Insomnia Fact Sheet

Every year, 70 million American adults (one-quarter to one-third of the population) have trouble falling or staying asleep, says the National Center on Sleep Disorders Research.

Lack of sleep costs the U.S. economy at least $18 billion a year in lost work productivity.

Harvard Health Letter estimates that 35 million Americans have chronic insomnia—sleep problems lasting longer than three weeks.

The problem of insomnia increases as the population ages.

More women than men suffer from insomnia.

Persistent sleep loss can worsen moods as well as diminish coordination, memory, concentration, and decision-making ability.

Thousands of books on the subject of insomnia have been published, but the majority of self-help books focus on combating insomnia, rather than embracing it.

Creative Insomnia teaches an enlightened and fresh perspective, helping its audience learn to transform “the dark night of the soul” into delicious relaxation and wisdom.

About Sondra

Sondra Kornblatt developed Restful Insomnia (formerly Creative Insomnia) in the midst of a long bout of insomnia in 2000. Myriad “cures” (such as valerian, calcium, and venting in a journal) proved useless. Frustrated with the war against insomnia, Sondra fashioned a distinctive approach to befriending herself in the night. She drew on thirty years of visualization, meditation, therapy, yoga, spirituality, and other personal work to appreciate the quiet time. She developed several novel insomnia techniques and innovative ways to use familiar ones to renew. By learning to renew and replenish while awake at night, she greeted the mornings refreshed.

Sondra loves to share her unique approach and insights with others affected by insomnia. She is a frequent speaker and presents Restful Insomnia seminars and workshops both in-person and through teleclasses. She has taught students at the University of Washington Women’s Center, the Northwest Women’s Show, East-West Bookstore, Whole Foods, and the annual Women of Wisdom Conference to understand the body/mind healing connection of Creative Insomnia. Contact her today if you’re interested in her classes.

Sondra is a life coach who helps sleepless and deep-sleeping clients reach inner dreams—in the day or night. She helps clients integrate their essential wisdom with daily needs, and stay accountable to moving forward. Contact her today to set up a complimentary session.

The Introduction to Creative Insomnia
Discover innovative techniques to balance your night-mind. Learn how to rest your conscious mind (which drives the day) and lead with your unconscious mind (which steers your night-raft while you sleep). Your night takes you to dreamy places, even while awake.

The Essence of Creative Insomnia
Experience Creative Insomnia for the body, mind, emotions, and spirit in this one-day workshop. We fully explore the Night Nest, Evening Rituals, Wisdom Writing, Night Yoga, and other techniques to deal with insomnia. You will learn creative ways to ground yourself and renew in the night.

Night Nest
A peaceful environment soothes you at night—a cocoon of soft silence, darkness, support, and care for your body. In this engaging workshop, Sondra shows participants how to build a warm and soothing space that creates a safe place to wait, nurture, and renew until sleep returns with its dream morsels.

Evening Rituals
In today’s technology-crazed, instant-access culture, most of us spend our jam-packed days running ourselves ragged. For some, the crammed schedule doesn’t end come midnight. Others spend evenings zoned out in front of the television. By the time you get to bed, you can’t wind down.

In this one-hour workshop, Sondra teaches participants how to develop Evening Rituals that create the foundation for sleep, rest, and tomorrow’s creativity. Evening Rituals provide the transition to turn your doing day into a being night.

Night Yoga
Bring your yoga mat and a towel, as Sondra teaches you how to soothe and stretch away tension in your bed or floor at night.

Wisdom Writing
In this three-step workshop, you’ll use body-based writing to heal troubling problems. You uncover the core problem, tap into your inner wisdom, and unearth the larger wisdom to guide you through your dilemma. It’s easy. It’s body-centered. It’s profound. Wisdom Writing helps unveil the deep knowledge that thrives inside. Creative Insomnia students find more power in ten minutes of Wisdom Writing than they achieved after weeks of insomnia journaling.

Getting into Your Body
Of course you know your body—but do you really feel it? Sondra will teach you how to make friends with your emotions, sensations, even pain.

Creativity Storms
Learn how to spark and manage your creative streaks—while staying grounded. In this seminar, Sondra will help you tap into—and use—your inspirations.

Inviting the Energy of Virtues
In this workshop participants will uncover how they experience the physical sensations and thoughts that lead them towards patience, happiness, wisdom, joy, and strength. We explore techniques that allow those virtues to emerge in the middle of impatience, sadness, foolishness, sorrow, and weakness.

Finding Your Spiritual Center
Find out how you connect to a larger universe. Discover your names and images for the natural force you connect with through self-focused spiritual dialogue. Discover how to infuse spiritual wisdom in your body.

Moving Through Fear
If fear controls the decisions you make about work and your relationships, Sondra’s workshop helps you get a new perspective. Learn short- and long-term methods for changing your relationship with fear.

Intuitive Feng Shui
Feng Shui can go beyond painting the front door red to bring good luck or placing the desk in the right corner of the office to guarantee financial success. The same principles of Feng Shui can be applied to your personal spirituality, too? Learn how to use your sense of energy flow to ground both your space a ndyourself.

If Meditation’s So Hard, Why Bother?
This hands-on program teaches meditation as mind training to help you tap into the universe holding your thoughts. Mind-Watch helps use the power of both the conscious mind and unconscious mind to unleash your effectiveness and creativity.
